Mauritius born brothers Dennis and Darren emerged in 2000 as Warner Music Australia signed R&B duo Kaylan. With a sound unique to Australian culture the album went mostly under appreciated. The boys then formed the dance music duo Disco Montego a year later releasing their debut album of the same name. The Dowlut brothers ran Bomb Music with partner George Said and were developing the career of Jeremy Gregory who was signed to Warner Music in the US. The group remixed a Mariah Carey track Boy (I Need You) from her 2002 album Charmbracelet after Carey was aware of their Australian success. Disco Montego were planning to relocate in 2005 to Los Angeles to take advantage of their success. However, their relocation plans had to be shelved when Darren Dowlut was diagnosed with cancer. Darren Dowlut died of chest cancer aged 26. Mariah Carey was among the performers who sent condolences.

The Gentlemen were rehearsing in a campus bathroom (later said to be in Moran Hall), getting ready for a performance, when Mark Kibble walked by and heard them singing. He joined the harmonizing, adding a fifth part, and ended up singing with them onstage that very night. Mark later invited Mervyn Warren to join the group. The group performed under the moniker "Alliance".The group was signed to Warner Brothers in 1987, and quickly changed its name to "Take 6" after a name search revealed that "Alliance" was already being used.

Their first big hits were the two singles "Who's In Da House" and "Throw Ya Hands In The Air". They became so succesful in their home country, they were able to become the support act for R. Kelly's tour in The Netherlands. Seeing their home town of Enschede is very close to Germany the duo could easily expand its market and they got signed by the German label Dos Or Die/Nightown Records. The following years they brought out more Hip Hop and R&B hits like "You To Me" and "You Can Run". They also performed at the annual Dome festival in Cologne, together with top acts as Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC and DJ Quicksilver. In 1997, Glaze left the group for a solo career. LL released Mama Said Knock You Out Album, generally leaning towards a tough street image. The record reestablished his reputation in the hip-hop community. It spawned three hit singles, "The Boomin' System," "Around the Way Girl," and the title track, which received special notice after LL Cool J's dynamic performance of it during an episode of MTV Unplugged. It was also featured in the film The Hard Way. The album included themes of police misconduct (Illegal Search), spirituality (Power of God), his career troubles ("Cheesy Rat Blues"), along with back-to-basics hip-hop party rocking and balladry ("Around the Way Girl"). Mama Said... eventually went on to sell over 2,700,000 copies. It marked the first of many self-reinventions LL Cool J would undergo to adapt to hip-hop's often changing atmosphere.

When he was 15, he started DJing in a mobile unit around London, before joining local pirate radio stations such as Kiss FM and LWR and finally starting his own station, WBLS (not to be confused with the radio station of the same name in New York). He joined Simon Harris' Music of Life as the closest thing they had to an A&R man. When a planned compilation of U.S. hip hop called Def Beats 1 (Music of Life, 1986) ran short of tracks, Boland stepped in to record a track called "Rock the Beat". He co-produced the track with Simon Harris, rapped on it under the pseudonym EZQ and also did his own DJing under the Derek B name. "Rock the Beat" (Music of Life, 1987) was released as a single, and followed by two more - the most successful of which was "Good Groove" (Music of Life, 1988) which reached number 16 in the UK Singles Chart, as well as "Bad Young Brother", which also reached number 16.
H-Town is an American R&B/hip hop musical group that was formed in 1992 by Keven "Dino" Conner, his twin brother Solomon "Shazam" Conner, and their long-time friend Darryl "G.I." Jackson. They took the name of the group, "H-Town," from the local nickname for the city of Houston, Texas. Growing up in a family of singers, brothers Keven (Dino) and Solomon (Shazam) Conner began their career singing in talent shows and plays before a local producer sent their demo tape to one-time 2 Live Crew rapper and record company owner, Luther "Luke" Campbell. After an impromptu audition, Campbell signed the band to his label, Luke Records. H-Town's debut album, Fever for Da Flavor, was released on April 15, 1993. The group gained popularity in America with "Knockin' Da Boots", H-Town's biggest hit to date. "Boots" was a #1 hit on the R&B charts[and hit #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Lick U Up", the bands follow-up single, was also released from the album but was less successful in the charts. The band won a 1993 Soul Train Music Award for Best New Artist. That same year, H-Town became part of the Coca-Cola tour, which also included Shai, SWV, and Silk.
"My Boo" is a song by the hip-hop group Ghost Town DJ's released as a popular bass music R&B on Jermaine Dupri's So So Def label, on the album So So Def Bass All-Stars. Suga Momma, a singer that is featured on many other songs from the So So Def Bass All Stars compilation series and is now also doing a CD with Chris Brown. Long Island's Soul for Real is in the tradition of bubblegum soul groups from the Jackson 5 through New Edition to Immature. The title track of Soul for Real's debut release, Candy Rain, broke through as a top-five pop hit and is symptomatic of an album full of bouncy, catchy melodies buoyed by sweet, skillful singing. Like the Jacksons, the four members of Soul for Real are actual brothers who also hand over the lead vocals to the youngest brother, in this case 14-year-old Jason Dalrymple. The Dalrymple brothers get an invaluable assist from producer-songwriter Heavy D, one of the most underrated talents of the hip-hop scene. Heavy D, who has a hand in every track on Candy Rain, fashions songs that are more innocent than his usual seduction fare but no less romantic or sumptuous. The puppy-love sentiments of "Every Little Thing I Do" and "I Wanna Be Your Friend" are delivered with such heartfelt sincerity and melodic ingenuity that anyone who remembers his or her first crush (no matter how long ago) should empathize. And Soul for Real display their gift for sophisticated harmonies with their Take 6-like a cappella version of Bill Withers's "Ain't No Sunshine."
Kut Klose was a R&B trio that formed in Atlanta, Georgia. The three female singers that made up the group were Athena Cage, Lavonn Battle and Tabitha Duncan. Despite releasing three singles, "Surrender," "Lovely Thang," and "I Like" the only one to make a significant impact was "I Like", which managed to reach #8 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

The title track "100 Miles and Runnin' was the group's first track to gain radio airtime and appear on TV with its music video. Dr. Dre, who had just finished working with The D.O.C. and Above the Law, added atypical funky beats and the slow synth groove on "Just Don't Bite It". A sadistic parody of the police on a skit featuring The D.O.C. from the group's 1-900 hotline introduces "Sa Prize, Pt. 2", a sequel to the controversial "Fuck tha Police" originally off of the Straight Outta Compton album. MC Ren and The D.O.C. wrote the lyrics for Eazy-E and Dr. Dre.
