OST Murder Was The Case

A short film about Snoop Dogg's murder trial called Murder Was the Case, was released in 1994, along with an accompanying soundtrack. However, by the time Snoop Dogg's second album, Tha Doggfather, was released in November 1996, the price of living (or sometimes just imitating) the "gangsta" life had become very evident. Among the many notable rap industry deaths and convictions were the death of Snoop Dogg's friend and label-mate Tupac Shakur and the racketeering indictment of Death Row co-founder Suge Knight. Dr. Dre had left Death Row earlier in 1996 due to a contract dispute, so Snoop Dogg co-produced Tha Doggfather with Daz Dillinger and DJ Pooh.

Silk - Lose Control

The five-member male R&B vocal group Silk hit the music scene in 1992 with the single "Freak Me" from their first album, Lose Control. Produced by R&B legend Keith Sweat, the record achieved multi-platinum status. Though "Freak Me" was a hit, the group had to virtually reintroduce itself to the R&B market when it released its third album, Tonight, in 1999.Silk formed in the early 1990s in Atlanta, Georgia, although the five members of the group essentially grew up together. Several members of the team Timothy Cameron (Timzo), Jimmy Gates Jr. (Jimmy), Gary Glenn (Big G), Gary Jenkins ( Lil' G), and Johnathen Rasboro (John John) actually went to high school together. The five friends were influenced by such acts as gospel's Kirk Franklin, pop stars Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson, rocker Prince and controversial rapper Tupac.

R Kelly & Public Annoucement - Born In The 90's

Shortly after getting his record deal with Chris Anderson his cousin, Kelly met Andre Boykins from Public Announcement and auditioned the guys to be his back up singers and dancers. R. Kelly & Public Announcement released their debut album, Born Into the '90s in January 1992. One of the last albums to be released during the new jack swing period of the early nineties, the album yielded the hits "She's Got That Vibe", "Honey Love", "Dedicated", and "Slow Dance (Hey Mr. DJ)" all of which was led by Kelly. The group was billed as R. Kelly and Public Announcement essentially making the group backup members for Kelly rather than in a cohesive unit. Dru Hill - Dru Hill

Dru Hill's big break came in 1996, when manager Haqq Islam arranged for them to perform at the Impact Convention in May. The group was signed to Island Records's "Island Black" division shortly afterward through a production deal with Islam's University Music, and immediately began recording their debut album. The self-titled Dru Hill album was released on November 19, 1996, and became a gold-selling album. The group's first single, "Tell Me", was featured on the soundtrack to the Whoopi Goldberg film Eddie, and was a Top 5 R&B hit in the United States.Stylistically, Dru Hill was the middle-ground between the smooth, gentlemen-like Boyz II Men and the self-proclaimed "bad boys of R&B", Jodeci. Dru Hill received a lot of criticism, especially from the members of Jodeci, for what was perceived was a direct appropriation of Jodeci's style, particularly in frontman Sisqó's K-Ci Hailey-esque lead vocals. Other major influences for the group included Stevie Wonder and 1980s boy band New Edition. Both the group themselves and songwriters/producers such as Daryl Simmons and Keith Sweat wrote the songs for the Dru Hill album, with the group themselves writing the single "5 Steps". Nokio also did some co-production, and would become the group's main producer by 1998.

The latter pair's father, Frederick Waite, was a former member of Jamaican group The Techniques, and sang lead with Junior at the start of the group's career in the late 1970s. Bell Biv Devoe - WBBD Bootcity The Remix Album

Anchored by B.B.D.'s reunion with fellow members of New Edition on "Word To The Mutha", the trio surprisingly turned out a decent remix album. During this time, a barrage of remix albums were hitting the shelfs, having the same intentions of B.B.D., milk out all of their enormous popularity in a logistical manner. For most, it failed. But for B.B.D., it worked. Like "Poison", the trio manufactured another inventive album with a smash hit to prove its credibility. To no surprise, the smash cut is the highlight, but other gems include Do Me! (smooth version), which is noticeably more interesting than the original, and the electronic/house version of "Let Me Know Somethin!", which is reminiscent of Snap! or C & C Music Factory. Also of note is the creative radio-style program format they use to portray the album, with D.J. interludes and a very interesting interview mid-way through the set.
