Zapp & Roger - All The Greatest Hits

Zapp electrified fans with their bumping techno grooves and patented talk box vocals. The group started as a family affair in the mid-’70s, with Troutman brothers Roger (vocals, guitar, songwriting), Tony (bass), Lester (drums), and Larry (percussion, songwriting) comprising the core. After building a loyal fan base throughout the Midwest, Zapp exploded nationally in 1980 with their debut Zapp. More than a dozen albums followed, released either under the name Zapp or as solo releases by Roger. By the mid-’90s the hits had started to dwindle, but a new wave of pop, R&B, and hip-hop artists, from Michael and Janet Jackson to Dr. Dre and Tupac Shakur, began sampling Zapp and Roger hits, and the sound captivated a whole new generation of listeners. Tragedy struck the group in 1999 when, in an apparent murder-suicide, Roger and Larry were both found dead from gunshot wounds. Shocked, the remaining members took a six-month hiatus before touring again. Today Zapp’s live shows still project the full-blown excitement of the early years, proving that you can’t keep a good band down.
